Overview of Issue
Water is scarce and natural resource that is neglected and overused in our environment by human beings. Water consists of two Atoms of Hydrogen Ions and one Atom of Oxygen linked by a chemical bond. Water is vital to human survival , animals and plants. Water is used in many parts of our daily life such as cooking, showering, gardening and leisure activities. Water is sourced from the natural environment such as rain water, melting ice, rivers, streams, oceans, wells, water vapours and bore holes.
Water takes up approximately 71% of the earth’s surface. However, water is becoming a scarce resource due to human beings negative actions towards the misuse of water such as overusing water, water pollution and climate change.
Approximately 1 billion human beings lack access to water supplies. Although water is an infinite natural resource it is running scarce due to water pollution as more than half of the water on the earth’s surface has been contaminated by human beings. In a recent study conducted by 500 scientists they discovered that ‘9 billion human beings living on earth will live with an insufficient amount of fresh water within two generations as climate change , the overuse of water and water pollution will negatively impact our future water supplies.’
This may provoke permanent change and result to appalling consequences if human beings don’t start conserving water.
Therefore , to avoid a water crisis for current and future generations it is vital that as our role of educators that we ensure to educate our students how to use water in a conservative manner and reduce, reuse and recycle our water supply so we don’t have a limited water supply for our future generations.
