Rationale
Approximately 4.5 billion human beings worldwide are already experiencing a water shortage as their water is polluted, overused or dry.
Nigeria is one of the countries experiencing a water crisis. In a Nigerian home families need to provide their own electricity and water from dug wells or bore holes. Human beings drink straight from these dug wells or bore holes without appropriate treatment or testing. This is occurring in the Ogoni area of Nigeria. The UNEP report 2010 disclosed that the Ogoni area underground water is polluted with a cancerous chemical. However, the residence of Ogoni still use this contaminated water as they have no other source of water for survival.
Nigeria is a region with an infinite amount of water. However, they are experiencing water shortage already. Therefore, water conservation is a vital issue as we need to educate our students to protect our precious water as we don’t want our country to suffer a water crisis or have contaminated water like the Ogoni area in Nigeria due to water misuse and neglect.
Water is a necessity and human right. If we do not have a fresh and sufficient water supply we will suffer adversely as water supports our life, animals and plants.
